WESLEY, Ark. – The owner of an alleged puppy mill in Wesley pleads not guilty to 177 counts of animal cruelty.
Court records show 67-year-old Joyce Johnson is facing 27 felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty and 150 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, 295 dogs had to be seized from Johnson’s property by the Humane Society on March 3rd. Five of the dogs were found dead on the property, according to the police report.
The Humane Society reports the dogs were found in deplorable conditions without access to food or clean water.
Johnson’s next court appearance is slated for September 13th.
