JASPER, Ark. – The Buffalo River Elk Festival Returns for its 19th season this weekend.
This year, organizers say they have expanded to include two separate venues; one at the courthouse square and the other down the road at Bradley Park. This week, the music and entertainment lineup was announced featuring all Arkansas talent.
Other features of the Elk Festival this year include a beauty pageant, a talent show, an elk calling contest, and the classic Dutch oven cooking contest. Additionally, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will be at the festival talking with people about Chronic Wasting Disease, an illness that is fatal to deer and elk.
The disease has been found in several deer and a few elk in Newton County.
The Buffalo River Elk Festival Kicks off at 8:00 a.m. on Friday with a pancake breakfast and will continue until after the 10 p.m. fireworks show on Saturday night.
