EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. – Following the Eureka Springs Fire Chief stepping down from office, his assistant chief takes his place this week.

Former Fire Chief Randy Ates announced that he would be taking another job with the Holiday Island Fire Department recently. Shortly after, Assistant Fire Chief Nick Samac said he would step up to help as the interim chief.

According to the fire department’s website, Samac has been with the department for 18 years as both a firefighter and a paramedic.

He had been the Assistant Fire Chief since September of last year and is also currently Carroll County’s Emergency Management Director. Samac says he is happy to continue to grow with the department as well as the community.
