JASPER, Ark. – The Newton County Assessor and her deputy are facing felony theft charges surrounding the misuse of public credit cards.

Court records filed on Monday show 58-year-old Shelia McCutcheon and 35-year-old Desiray McCutcheon are accused of using Newton County Credit Cards from 2010 to 2015 for personal use. The police report says the state’s audit, in December, found over 11-thousand dollars in unauthorized charges.

This investigation has been handled by the division of legislative audits, a special agent with the sate police, and local authorities, according to the report. Sheila McCutcheon has been the Newton County Assessor since the early 1990’s and was running unopposed for the position in the upcoming election.

Both women are looking at a single-count felony charge of theft of property. A court appearance has not yet been issued.
