by Sam Clanton

GALENA, Mo. – A jury trial is scheduled in Stone County for the Police Chief of Indian Point Village, who is charged with misdemeanor third-degree assault.

Forty-year-old Edward Allen Hamlin was arrested by sheriff’s deputies following an altercation at Wagner’s One Stop convenience store in Notch on October 22nd, 2015.

According to a probable cause statement, Hamlin confronted a man who was sitting outside the store eating food, asking the man if he wanted to “go back to jail,” and allegedly grabbing him by the back of the neck before kneeing him, choking him and throwing him against a wall.

Just prior to the incident, Hamlin reportedly asked those inside the store if they “wanted to have fun” at the victim’s expense. The man’s brother was inside the store and informed Hamlin that his brother had just got out of jail.

During the subsequent investigation, Hamlin reportedly admitted to deputies that he assaulted the man, stating he messed up.

His jury trial is scheduled to begin January 18th, 2017 in Galena.
