JASPER, Ark. – There is a precautionary boil order in place for those south-east of Jasper in Newton County.

The Arkansas Department of Health’s Environmental Specialist Stanley Starling says 79 customers on Lone Beech Road, Gum Spring Road, and Murray Road need to boil their water for at least one minute prior to use.

Starling says there was a break in one of the main water lines in that area causing a temporary drop in pressure overnight. He says crews are currently waiting on test samples to come back from the state laboratory to determine if the water was contaminated or if it is safe to drink.

In the meantime, he is advising all 79 customers in that area to boil all water used, including water for dishes, ice cubes, or drinking.
