HARRISON, Ark. – UPDATE – Boone County Sheriff Mike Moore identifies the victims as 19-year-old Casey Ruley and 19-year-old Paul Andrew Woodruff, both of Harrison. Below is a news release issued Monday afternoon:
On 06/05/2016 at approximately 6:37PM the Boone County Sheriff’s Department responded to Bull Shoals Lake at Diamond City regarding two males that had fallen from a bluff that is locally known as Devil’s Backbone.
Emergency response personnel responded to the location finding that 19 year old Casey Ruley of Harrison had died on scene as result of the fall. 19 year old Paul Andrew Woodruff of Harrison also fell from the bluff, reportedly went into the water but could not be immediately located. Witnesses reported to the Sheriff’s Department that approximately a 5 foot section of the bluff where the two were standing collapsed that caused the fall.
With the assistance of the Arkansas Game and Fish Dive Team and the Harrison Police Department a search was conducted into the night without success. At approximately 11am on 06/06/2016 divers did successfully locate Woodruff. At this time both deaths are believed to be accidental pending the completion of the investigation.
DIAMOND CITY, Ark. – Two men are dead in what authorities are calling “a tragic accident” at Devils Backbone in Diamond City on Sunday.
Boone County Sheriff Mike Moore confirms a bluff on the popular hiking trail, near Bull Shoals Lake, gave out with the two men standing on top of it on Sunday morning. He says investigators believe the men fell at least 30 feet.
According to the report, the body of one of the men was found on Sunday afternoon by search and rescue teams on foot. He says the other man’s body was found by a local dive team on Monday morning.
Moore says the identities of the two men are being held at this time until next of kin can be notified.
