MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – Baxter County Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was found suspended from a tree on Sunday.
Investigators say 27-year-old Weldon Speirs was reported as a missing person to Izard County authorities by his family on Friday. Family members told the department he was visiting a friend near the Baxter/ Izard County line.
Law Enforcement Officials in Baxter County were alerted by Saturday.
By Sunday, a family member found Speirs’ body in some woods off of Wild Fern Lane, southeast of Norfork. Investigators say they believe Speirs’ foot got stuck in a crevice of the large cedar tree and he was not able to free himself. It is unclear why he went into the woods.
Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says this investigation will remain open until a full autopsy can be done by that Arkansas State Medical Examiners Office in Little Rock.
However, Mongomery says it is believed to be an accidental fatality.
