Jefferson CiTY, Mo. – The U.S. and Missouri flags on all state buildings in Missouri will be flown at half-staff on Monday, May 30, until noon, in accordance with Section 6 of the U.S. Flag Code, in observance of Memorial Day. Gov. Jay Nixon encouraged Missourians to honor those who lost their lives while serving in the nation’s armed forces.

“The traditions of Memorial Day are rooted firmly in remembering and honoring those Americans who gave their lives to protect the freedoms we cherish,” Gov. Nixon said. “Many of those heroes have their final resting places in cemeteries that are found at Normandy, in France; at Arlington, outside Washington; and at the Punchbowl, in Hawaii. Others are buried here in Missouri, from small-town cemeteries to the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. The rows of grave markers and the lowered flags should give all of us pause this weekend to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
