EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. – The Eureka Springs Fire and EMS welcome a Hummer to its fleet this month.
Fire Chief Randy Ates says the department’s rural arm has just got a former military Hum-Vee utility vehicle from Federal Surplus Property…
Ates says the 1985 model arrived in a desert sand camouflage color with personalized emblems, so Assistant Fire Chief Bobby Kelley, Captain Ray Birchfield, Firefighter Donny Roller and mechanic Jim Blair volunteered more than 50 hours stripping the paint, sanding the truck, and re-painting it in fire department colors, as well as fitting it with emergency lights, a radio, spot lights and a siren.
Ates says the Hummer’s unique off road properties makes it ideal for the rough terrain rescues and firefighting that often occurs in and around Eureka Springs.
