FLIPPIN, Ark. – Capital murder is the charge now filed against the Mountain Home man connected to the death of a 2-year-old girl from Flippin.

In a press conference today (Tuesday) at the Marion County Courthouse, 14th Judicial District Attorney David Ethredge stated the victim, now identified as Alitha Boyd, did die on Friday, after being lifeflighted and put on life support at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. It is still unclear if prosecutors will go for the death penalty against 23-year-old Cody Allen.

Previous to the child’s death, Allen faced first degree battery charges.

According to officials with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Flippin Police Department, officers were called to an apartment complex on May 1st with the report of an unresponsive child. On scene, officers say they observed extensive bruising to the child’s head and body.

Ethredge says medical staff indicates those injuries were due to the impact of an object.

Allen was connected to the incident, after police preformed multiple interviews, analyzed phone records, and evidence at the scene. Allen is currently being held in the State Corrections Facility in Melvern.
