NIXA, Mo. – The City of Nixa is hosting a special ceremony, on Friday, June 10th, to celebrate the launch of its newest endeavor, the Nixa Municipal Community Alternative Sentencing Court.
During this 2 p.m. ceremony, area residents will have the opportunity to speak with and get their questions answered by community leaders about this new program.
Nixa Municipal Judge and founder of Nixa CAS-Court Joel Harris shares this program will provide the local justice system a creative and meaningful option to serve the area:
Harris says this court program includes, but is not limit to, individuals with un-diagnosed and diagnosed yet untreated mental illnesses, impoverished adults, homeless and at-risk of homelessness adults and victims of repeated trauma.
Harris adds the overall goal of this program is to avoid traditional punishment, such as incarceration or fines, and defer the participant to the appropriate agency for treatment or services that will lead to a career or job placement.
More information about this program can be found here.
