Press Release

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. — S. Truett Cathy Lower School students at College of the Ozarks won first place at the Mark Twain Conference Spelling Bee, held at Chadwick Elementary School in Chadwick, Missouri, on April 21, 2016.

Six schools competed in the annual event, including Bradleyville, Chadwick, Hurley, New Covenant Academy (Springfield), Niangua, and School of the Ozarks.

School of the Ozarks Lower School received first place overall in the competition, with an additional six students receiving awards. Addie Wright earned first place honors for the first grade competition. Oliver Mutrux placed first in the second grade group. Second grader Ella Howard, third grader Madison Lundeen, fourth grader Mylee Hampsch, and sixth grader Audrey Mason all received second place in their respective grade levels.

The sponsors for the group were Chrissy Martin, second grade teacher, and Mary Kay Janke, third grade teacher.

“I was honored to be able to represent School of the Ozarks as a Spelling Bee sponsor for the Mark Twain Conference,” Martin said. “I was particularly honored to witness Madison Lundeen, third grader, immediately congratulate her opponent. After all students and parents were dismissed from the room, two teachers from other conference schools came to Madison and told her that she was the winner to them because of her sportsman-like conduct. This is what competition is all about, winning or losing, it is about who we represent, and Madison made Christ and School of the Ozarks look GOOD!”
