MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – The Baxter County Sheriff’s Department is still looking for an Izard County man, after a Monday night car chase and manhunt.
Sheriff John Montgomery says authorities are on the look-out for 33-year-old Thomas Brainscum from Izard County.
Montgomery says his department became involved in a two county chase, after the Izard County Department began pursuing a vehicle on westbound Highway 5 around 1:30 a.m. on Monday.
According to the sheriff’s report, the man driving the vehicle is identified as 60-year-old Danny Sturgis. Brainscum is said to have been the passenger and bailed out of the suspect car on Highway 5, around Moccasin Creek.
Authorities say later on, Sturgus ditched the car authorities were after in a field near Norfork and began running from authorities on foot.
A dog tracking unit from the state’s Department of Corrections joined in the manhunt soon after and found Sturgus, 25 yards from the abandoned vehicle with suspected methamphetamine adjacent to him.
Jail logs show Sturges is currently in the county jail facing charges from both Baxter and Izard Counties. Brainscum is still on the loose, but Montgomery says he is not armed or dangerous.
