Mount Vernon Man Killed in Ozark County Crash

GAINESVILLE, Mo. – A man from Mount Vernon is killed in a single vehicle crash Saturday afternoon, 11 miles north of Gainesville in Ozark County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reports 76-year-old Paul Meents was traveling southbound on Highway 5 at 12:55 p.m., when he ran off of the right side of the roadway, overcorrected and ran off of the left side of the roadway. Meents vehicle then struck a rock bluff and overturned.

Meents was pronounced dead at the scene by Ozark County Coroner Shane Ledbetter. According to the online crash report Meents was not wearing his seatbelt.

Troop G reports this crash as its 14th cash fatality for 2016.
