Arkansas State Police patch

ARKANSAS – Law enforcement agencies throughout Arkansas are now saying “U Drive. U Text. U Pay. ” That’s the new slogan for the state’s Distracted Driving Prevention campaign this month.

Col. Bill Bryant, Director of the Arkansas State Police, says agencies across that state will be cracking down on distracted drivers with heavy enforcement. He says the law in Arkansas prohibits the use of any kind of hand held phone for texting, typing, emailing, or using the internet, no matter how old you are.

Additionally in Arkansas, it is illegal for anyone under 18 to use a cell phone at all behind the wheel, according to Bryant. The department says texting and driving is a “primary offence”, meaning no other violation is necessary for an officers to pull a person over.

Bryant says he hopes this will help to educate people about the dangers of texting and operating a motor vehicle.
