Mayoral Candidates Talk Police Funding on KRZK

by Sam Clanton

BRANSON, Mo. – Both candidates seeking election as Mayor of Reeds Spring appeared on At Your Service with Scott McCaulley this week on News-Talk KRZK.

Incumbent Mayor Kevin Hayward and former mayor Paul Lear both share a love of their hometown, including its history and its potential for future growth. But a couple of issues came to a head during the radio interview, including a concern of Lear’s about increased funding for the police department, to the detriment of other city departments and projects…

Hayward defended the funding shift, stating the city needs to invest in its police department in order to reduce its dependency on the Stone County Sheriff’s Office…

Another issue the candidates don’t agree on is the idea of reinstating the position of Reeds Spring City Administrator. Hayward says the city is able to adequately function without an administrator, while Lear calls the decision to remove the position short sighted.
