CAMP ORR, Ark. – As the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission finish up sampling for Chronic Wasting Disease in North West Arkansas, another white tailed deer is confirmed to have the disease.
Officials say the deer was found at Camp Orr, near Mount Sherman, this month. This is the third animal that has tested positive for the disease that is fatal to deer and elk.
The first was found in Ponca and the other near Pruitt. For the last two weeks, specialists have been taking samples to see how wide spread the disease is.
According to a report from the Game and Fish Commission, 129 deer and 3 elk have been collected, so scientist can study the brain tissue for the disease. Authorities with the department say they are still unsure how Chronic Wasting Disease spread to area.
