GALENA, Mo. – The Sheriff of Stone County addresses false information being distributed across the county regarding conceal and carry weapon permit carriers.

Sheriff Doug Rader reports on the evening of Wednesday, March 16th, a flyer was brought to his attention, which states on Thursday, March 9th, he began releasing the names of CCW permit holders in Stone County, Missouri.

Rader says this information being distributed contains lies, slander and undue alarm:

Rader also says in March several sunshine requests were submitted to his office in regards to the department’s financial records. He adds it was discovered that a copy of the department’s financial ledger had been sent with the financial report to the Treasures Office by a former employee.

Rader says the ledger contained the names of people who paid for CCW permits between August 2013 and May 2014. No addresses or personal information was included in the sunshine request and the names have since been redacted from the copy of the ledger.

Rader adds the only person that has this information is the one who filed the Sunshine request and if he was to release it, he would be in violation of RSMO 571.013.

Rader encourages any citizens who have questions or concerns to contact him at his office at (417) 357-6116.
