PONCA, Ark. – Officials will be testing for Chronic Wasting Disease on both elk and white tailed deer, this week.
A release from the Buffalo National River says that all park visitors are asked to wear highly-visible clothing, as they would during the fall or winter firearm season. Recently, an elk and a deer were found with the disease.
Caven Clark, with the park says local specialists and biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will be taking samples from noon to midnight, Monday to Thursday this week. Clark says the specialists are hoping to get three hundred samples for the study.
