POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. — College of the Ozarks hosts the annual National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II Men’s Basketball Championship, March 9-15, 2016, at the Howell W. Keeter Athletic Complex. The 25th annual tournament will consist of 32 teams, including the local College of the Ozarks Bobcats.
The opening round of play begins on Wednesday, March 9, at 8:30 a.m., with day and evening games throughout the week. All teams invited to the tournament will gather for the “Parade of Champions” ceremony at 7:30 p.m. on the opening night. The tournament concludes with the championship game scheduled for Tuesday, March 15, at 6 p.m.
Every year, the NAIA Championship brings thousands of fans to the Ozarks to cheer on teams that represent schools from across the country. Last year’s champions, Cornerstone University, traveled ten hours from Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Point Lookout, Missouri.
“We’re excited to be hosting the NAIA Tournament for the 17th straight year,” said Dori Rapinchuk, co-director of the tournament. “The competition is always exciting, and it’s fun to see players and fans from across the county cheering alongside those from the local community.”
In 2006, the College of the Ozarks Men’s Basketball Team won the national tournament. Ten years later, these Bobcats may be one of the best teams since their last championship run.
“It’s the most exciting time of the year,” said Bobcats Coach Steve Shepherd. “This is what all of the guys have been working for, the culmination of an entire season’s effort.”
