JASPER, Ark. – The Newton County Sheriff’s Department is releasing information on an arrest last week that may keep a habitual offender from Jasper behind bars.
Authorities say a local resident reported an unknown man, later identified as 33-year-old Jason Vanderpool, appeared to be aggressively yelling at a young woman on their front lawn, last Wednesday, February 17th.
Deputies with the Newton County department say they found Vanderpool’s vehicle that night, conducted a traffic stop, and found meth and marijuana. Court papers show Vanderpool is facing a habitual offender too because he has been involved of a slew of drug related charges since 2007.
According to Sheriff Keith Slape, Vanderpool violated his parole from his most recent run in with local law enforcement, so he will be held in the Newton County Detention Center with no bond.
