ST. JOE, Ark. – Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire that destroyed the St. Joe Mercantile this (Monday) morning.
Searcy County Sheriff Joey Pruitt says the Pindall, Gilbert & St. Joe Volunteer Fire Departments were called to the scene in St. Joe a little before two a.m.
Authorities say it took firefighters four hours to extinguish the blaze.
Pruitt says one firefighter at the scene was hurt when the roof collapsed on him, but the man was treated for his minor injuries on the scene.
While investigators say they do not believe the fire seemed suspicious, they are still working on the cause. Officials say the building was built in 1924 and had been in operation since, however was deemed a total loss.
