EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. – The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department identifies the victim in the ongoing murder investigation.

According to Chief Deputy George Frye, 31-year-old John Keck was the victim found dead on Friday. Police say they received a report that night of a disturbance and a possible shooting at Stone Wall Mountain, north of Eureka Springs.

Responding deputies located the caller, identified as Christopher Butler, and discovered Keck, who suffered from apparent gunshot wounds, in the driver’ seat of Butler’s vehicle.

Chief Deputy Frye says Butler had his first judicial appearance before Judge Scott Jackson on Monday.  He did not have a bond set.

Authorities say Butler remains in the Carroll County Jail on preliminary charges of first degree murder and tampering with evidence.
