Regular season dominated by veteran leadership
The School of the Ozarks Patriots are a veteran team featuring six seniors, including 1,000-point scorers Keaton Tillack and Cade Martin. Tillack and Martin account for nearly half of the Patriots’ offensive output, together averaging 27.7 of the teams 64.8 points per game. The Patriots have already enjoyed a stellar regular season, going 21-3 while continuing their reign as Mark Twain Conference champions by beating Hurley in the conference championship on last Saturday, Feb. 13. Last Monday, Feb. 15, the boys’ basketball team celebrated senior night with a 68-38 victory over the Everton Tigers, finishing conference play undefeated.
“The key to our success has been the presence of players who have been there before, and know what it takes,” said Patriots Coach Jerry Martin. “The seniors set the precedent for focus and energy because this is their last chance. I expect nothing more than for them to continue to give everything they have, and of course have a great time while at it.”
The Lady Patriots have also enjoyed a successful season, posting a program-best 10 wins and advancing to third place in the Mark Twain Conference tournament. Their teams features two standout senior starters, Emily Brown and All-District selection Hannah Duncan. The team received a boost with the emerging talent of forward Evie Carswell, who has averaged an outstanding 9.7 points and 5.9 rebounds.
