EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. – Several boats, a shed, and a number of other items are destroyed in a fire near a historic wedding chapel in Eureka Springs.
Chief Randy Ates with the local department says crews were dispatched to the Ridge Top Resort and Chapel of the Angels, off of Highway 187, at around noon on Thursday.
He says firefighters with the Grassy Knob and Inspiration Point Fire Departments were called as back up to the scene, along with the Arkansas Forestry Department.
During the several hours it took to extinguish the brush fire near the chapel in Eureka Springs, firefighters were called to a separate brush fire on Blue Springs Road in Inspiration Point. When the Inspiration Point crew arrived on scene, flames had reached the back deck of a house.
Once the fire was extinguished in Inspirations Point, the crew returned to the Eureka Springs Fire until it was also put out.
Ates says there were no injuries reported at either incident. Additionally, he says the dry conditions and high winds played a large role in both fires.
