by Sam Clanton

OMAHA, Ark. – The Omaha Board of Education names the school district’s next superintendent.

Jacob Sherwood, principal at John Tyson Elementary in Springdale, will replace Jerry Parrett, who retires as superintendent at the end of the school year.

Sherwood holds a Master’s degree from William Woods University, and a doctorate from the University of Missouri. He taught Spanish and migrant education in Missouri schools, before moving to Springdale for an administrative position.

Sherwood begins his new job in Omaha on July 1st, and says he plans to work with Parrett toward a smooth transition.

The school board approved the hire at its regular meeting Monday night. The board selected Sherwood from a field of more than 20 applicants.
