FORSYTH, Mo. – Missouri Governor Jay Nixon signs into law Senate Bill 585, which divides the 38th Judicial Circuit and creates a new 46th Judicial Circuit, consisting of only Taney County.
Under the new law, which takes affect immediately due to an emergency clause, Christian County remains in the 38th Judicial Circuit, while all Taney County court cases move to the new division.
District 20 State Senator Jay Wasson of Nixa sponsored the bill, and District 140 Representative Lynn Morris of Ozark handled the bill in the State House, which passed the measure by a vote of 147 to five on Monday.
Wasson says local court officials have requested the split for years due to overcrowding in the two-county circuit.
The bill becomes law prior to candidate filing for this year’s primary and general elections in Taney and Christian counties, which opens Tuesday, February 23rd.
