KIRBYVILLE, Mo. – Firefighters battle a natural cover fire this (Monday) afternoon that destroys two abandoned buildings off Rustic Acres Road in Kirbyville.

The fire threatened an occupied residence, but crews from Western and Central Taney County were able to contain the blaze before it spread to the home.

Western Fire Chief Chris Berndt says the fire began as an outdoor burn pile, that eventually got out-of-control and involved the vacant structures, and caused damage to a vehicle…

Berndt says anyone who needs to burn outdoors should take preventative measures or hold off until conditions improve.

Crews were on scene for over two hours. No injuries are reported. Sixteen Western firefighters and six Central firefighters responded.
