Second Mental Exam Approved for Murder Suspect

FORSYTH, Mo. – A man charged with murdering his girlfriend in a Branson hotel room will undergo a second psychiatric examination regarding his competency to stand trial.

Thirty-four-year-old Jerry Norton is facing six felony charges in connection with the December 2014 stabbing death of 46-year-old Melissa Sheridan, including second-degree murder, armed criminal action, assault and resisting arrest.

The examination will be conducted by the Missouri Department of Mental Health, Division of Behavioral Health.

Norton currently remains jailed without bond in Taney County. The next hearing in his case is set for March 8th.
