N.ARKANSAS – Smoke in the air people are seeing over Flippin is due to prescribed burns in the area, according to authorities.
The Flippin Fire Department says that the large amount of smoke in the area today and yesterday is due to The Arkansas Forestry Commission, conducting several prescribed burns in Searcy County.
The smoke is being carried by the winds.
Furthermore, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will also start prescribed burns on Norfork and Bull Shoals lakes this week. Engineers say these controlled burns will continue until the first week of April.
However, burning is still not recommended for citizens, according to officials.
