LAMPE, Mo. – Southern Stone County firefighters respond to two separate brush fires this (Tuesday) afternoon – one damaging a resort property at Baxter, and the other involving approximately 80 acres near Shell Knob.
Crews arrived in Baxter to find flames spreading from a burn barrel, threatening the nearby property. Firefighters worked for approximately two hours containing the blaze, which damaged three unoccupied units.
While crews were still on scene, the Central Crossing Fire Protection District sent out a request for mutual aid, with dozens of acres reportedly involved in a brush fire off H Highway near Shell Knob in Barry County.
Southern Stone County sent two brush trucks and a duty chief, and the Oak Grove, Arkansas Fire Department also responded in mutual aid with three trucks and various personnel.
As of news time at 5 p.m., it is believed upwards of 80 acres are involved.
Firefighters use this occasion to strongly discourage outdoor burning while dry, windy conditions persist.
