HARRISON, Ark. – North Arkansas College announced it will host the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament in 2017. Hometown daily’s Shannon Cay has the story.

The college will host the national tournament for three years, bringing in sixteen national teams each year. Micki Somers with the college says this allows at least two thousand people to visit the newly remodeled Pioneer Pavilion.

In the last four years, North Arkansas College has been replacing the wood floors, adding new bleachers, and a new scoreboard in the gym. In order to get the bid, the college also prepared a list of hotel accommodations and restaurants in the area to support the tournament.

She says the NJCAA includes over sixty thousand student athletes who play 28 different sports. Somers adds there is a lot of work that still needs to be done.

In the coming months, the college will be asking for input from the community, as well as volunteers for the national basketball tournament.
