The Springfield Fire Department’s bomb squad maneuvered a robot to transport the luggage to a containment unit on a trailer. Officials are still working to determine what’s inside the bag that TSA screening equipment detected as a possible threat.
Brian Weiler is the Aviation Director for the airport and said the airport was never closed but people were moved away from the terminal and several airplanes were diverted to a safe location.
Weiler added that both local and state law enforcement are investigating the incident. The suspect’s identity has yet to be released.
