Sunday afternoon volunteers at Faith And Wisdom Church in Branson will be working to help hurting children around the world while also jumping into the Christmas spirit. The church is holding a shoebox packing party for Franklin Graham’s Operation Christmas Child.
Pastor Gary McSpadden says the church has been collecting gifts since last May. “Last year our church sent off 186 shoeboxes. Families took the boxes home and filled them with gifts on their own. This year, after praying about how to make it more successful, we collected different items every month from May to October. Our church has gathered over 4,000 items and we thank God for that.”
The church’s goal was to pack and send off 300 boxes. “I believe we will be closer to 400!” says Pastor Gary McSpadden. “This is a great church and it’s full of giving people.”
Pastor McSpadden says “We’re already thinking ahead towards 2015 so we’ve made the last item on the agenda a shoebox packing party. We want it to be memorable for everyone, so our plan is to have a lot of Christmas fun. Volunteers are being greeted by falling snow as they walk in the door, we’ll have Christmas music, Christmas cookies and a visit from Frosty The Snowman.”
After all the boxes are assembled the church plans to take time to pray over the boxes. “We’ll ask God to minister to each child that receives a gift.” says Pastor McSpadden. “We’ll also pray for all the volunteers that take these (and other boxes) to distribution centers, airlines, freight trains, cargo ships and even pack mules to deliver the Good News of Jesus Christ. It’s been a great joy to combine our efforts with Samaritan’s Purse. Together we are changing the World!”
Operation Christmas Child is a ministry that encourages kids, families, churches and groups to fill shoeboxes with items like toys, school supplies and hygiene items. The goal is to create gifts that can make a significant difference in the lives of hurting children around the world and present The Gospel of Jesus Christ to them. National Collection Week for gift-filled shoeboxes is Nov. 17-24
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered gift-filled shoeboxes to more than 113 million children in more than 150 countries. In 2014, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoebox gifts to reach another 10 million children.
Faith And Wisdom Church’s shoebox packing party will be Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Volunteers are welcome to join in the packing fun.
The church is located at 3950 Green Mountain Drive in Branson, just behind Olive Garden on Hwy 76.
