According to Marion County, Arkansas Sheriff Roger Vickers, 44-year-old Harold Saeler reportedly tripped and shot himself in the leg while trying to shoot at coyotes on his property late Sunday night. Saeler was hospitalized 9 hours later after a woman spotted him from her vehicle.

A house guest of Saeler’s, 36-year-old Richard Amerson, reportedly knew Saeler had gone outside with a handgun, but didn’t check on his wellbeing when he didn’t return home. Amerson was later arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Baxter County.

Sheriff Vickers says the incident is still under investigation.
