Missouri – U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) accepted the “Crystal Wagon Award” Monday night from Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. The award, which was given in recognition of his contribution to the health and welfare of children, was presented by the SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center Board of Governors.
“Every day, doctors, nurses, and other professionals in Missouri and nationwide dedicate their lives to caring for our children’s health and well-being. As a grandfather of six and father of four, I’m proud to assist those important efforts by advocating for our children. I’m honored to partner with Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Hospital and other facilities in Missouri as we work to ensure our children receive the best medical care possible,” said Blunt.
Blunt co-sponsored the “Children’s Hospital Graduate Medical Education Support Reauthorization Act,” which was signed into law in April 2014. The program provides freestanding children’s hospitals with graduate medical education funding comparable to what adult teaching hospitals receive through Medicare. The program has increased the number of pediatric providers, addressed critical shortages in pediatric specialty care, and improved children’s access to care.
