Skates to Perform with Kim Parker

thumb_f3457436e130f98Local bassist Matthew Skates will perform with Kim Parker, daughter of jazz legend Charlie Parker, at Evangel University’s Fall Artist Series on Tuesday, October 28th.

Skates regularly performs as Ricky Lloyd Cleverly, bassist for comedic bluegrass outfit The Cleverlys in Branson. He comments on receiving the call to play with Kim Parker…


Kim Parker will be featured in a 3 p.m. lecture and 7:30 p.m. concert at Evangel’s Barnett Recital Hall. Both events are free and open to the public.

About Kim Parker:

Daughter of jazz legend Charlie Parker, Kim Parker is an award-winning jazz vocalist who spent the first seven years of her life on the famed 52nd street in New York City.

Her lecture will focus on her life in music and will include a chance for a time of questions and answers.

Parker has recorded as lead on jazz albums Havin Myself a Time, Good Girl, and Sometimes I’m Blue; television broadcasts such as Jazz at the Delaware Water Gap on PBS; The Joe Franklin Show, and Jazz-In; and films such as Nobody Knows Indio and La Memoire Tatouee.

About Matthew Skates: 

Skates is originally from Ft. Worth, Texas. He studied music at Waterford College and the University of Texas at Arlington. He has performed in a number of Branson shows since locating here in 2011. He currently performs with The Cleverlys and aboard the Showboat Branson Belle in addition to his involvement in electronic music and solo performance.
