thumb_72eaa1de5a40fb3NOTCH, Mo. – A woman and her two children are injured in an ATV crash near Compton Ridge Campground in Notch yesterday.

According to Eric Nielsen with the Southern Stone County Fire Protection District, 32-year-old Kara Coates of Springfield was driving down a hill when the ATV’s throttle became stuck as she applied the vehicle’s front brakes. The ATV skidded and overturned ejecting the mother and her two children.

Nielsen says a helicopter wasn’t originally called out when first responders arrived, and then about 15 minutes later Coates and her 6-year-old son were flown to Mercy Hospital in Springfield. Her two-year-old son was taken by a private vehicle also to Mercy. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol’s accident report, no one was wearing a helmet in the incident.
