Smoke-Free Ordinance Passes on First Reading

thumb_ed57ad9150be9b6Public indoor smoking will soon be a thing of the past in Branson as aldermen approve first reading of a much-debated smoke-free ordinance.

The bill received unanimous support from the board after undergoing a total of 4 amendments.

President of Cox Medical Center Branson William Mahoney attended the regular council meeting Tuesday and offered these comments about the plan…

Mahoney points out that Cox Branson became a tobacco-free campus in 2006, and stopped hiring tobacco users last November.

According to city staff members, it’s unclear exactly when the new smoke-free law will go into effect, but likely sometime in 2015. That’s contingent on second-reading approval by the board at its next meeting October 28th.
