thumb_f718f029cc1c658BERRYVILLE, Ark. – A man from Berryville pleads guilty to first-degree murder in Carroll County Circuit Court this week.

Victor Acuna-Sanchez is sentenced to 25 years in prison in connection with the death of 21-year-old Laura Aceves of Eureka Springs.

Aceves was found unresponsive in an apartment in Eureka Springs on New Year’s Eve in 2013, and later died at Mercy Hospital in Rogers. Police later determined she died from a gunshot wound to the head by a smaller caliber firearm such as .22. Acuna-Sanchez was arrested after officers found him hiding in the shower of his Berryville residence. Investigators later found a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol also in the home.

Carroll County Prosecuting Attorney Tony Rogers says Acuna-Sanchez will not be eligible for parole until he serves 17 and a half years in prison.
