thumb_80ebf43c3a7b7efSPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The City of Springfield reaches a pre-lawsuit settlement of 700-thousand dollars to the man who was shot by a police officer on May 9.

Former Springfield Police Officer Jason Shuck shot Eric Butts in the lower back near a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market on Glenstone. Butts, who was allegedly panhandling nearby, was questioned by the officer about outstanding warrants. The man fled on foot when the officer fired a handgun instead of his Taser.

Shuck pled guilty to misdemeanor charges and will serve two years’ probation. He is not allowed to be a police officer or any other job where he would carry a firearm.
