Former Harrison Judge Assigned to State Lawsuit

thumb_fdd74172e0bd7b8HARRISON, Ark. – Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe names a retired Harrison judge as a special justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court for the lawsuit contesting the state’s gay marriage ban.

Judge Robert W. McCorkindale will serve on the state’s Supreme Court to help decide where or not to uphold Arkansas’ 2004 constitutional amendment which defines marriage between a man and a woman.

McCorkindale will sit in for Justice Cliff Hoofman who has removed himself from the case. The Supreme Court has not indicated when it will rule the case.

Pulaski County Circuit Judge Chris Piazza struck down the ban in May, and subsequently over 540 gay couples received marriage licenses until the Supreme Court suspended the decision.
