Students at School of the Ozarks High School (S of O) will host the Pitch in for Patriots™ 5K and 10K Run/Walk at College of the Ozarks on October 4, 2014 starting, at 9 a.m.
To reinforce the patriotic goal of College of the Ozarks and its laboratory high school, S of O high school students created a club called Pitch in for Patriots™. By “pitchin’ in” money, support and time, S of O students want to make a positive difference in the lives of Veterans and hope to inspire others to do the same.
S of O junior Hannah Duncan won last year’s 5K race and is eager for more participants. “I participated in this event last year and had a lot of fun,” she said. “It is a way to join the community for a great cause, enjoy the nice weather, and have fun with friends. I look forward to running again this year, and I encourage everyone to join me.”
The Run/Walk includes a scenic off-road course, professional timing with awards, and all participants will receive a t-shirt. The Run/Walk has an online registration fee of $30, or participants may register the day of for $35. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the event will go toward the Pitch in for Patriots™ fund.
Money raised by the students has been used to purchase a TrackChair, an all-terrain wheel chair, for a disabled Missouri Veteran Staff Sergeant Daniel Barnes. Money has also been donated to Wreaths Across America where the two co-presidents of the club traveled to Washington D.C. to lay remembrance wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery last December.
These are only two examples of how S of O students are “serving others who have served,” which is the Pitch in for Patriots™ motto.
