SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A virus that is spreading throughout the Midwest, infecting kids from Illinois through Oklahoma has not yet been confirmed in the Ozarks, according to the Greene County Health Department.
The virus is identified as the Enterovirus D68 Virues and it has led to the hospitalization of kids across the country including Missouri. Symptoms of the virus is similar to the common cold including a severe cough, difficulty breathing, and a rash. The EV-D68 can also be accompanied by a fever or wheezing.
Enteroviruses are common for this time of year but this specific strain has had fewer than 100 cases since the 60’s, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
