Big Fourth Quarters led both Branson and Reeds Spring to High School Football Victories Friday night. Meanwhile, Hollister suffered their first loss of the year.
Branson 38 Bolivar 14
Branson’s Home Opener saw the Pirates get a quick 10-0 lead as the Pirates scored on their first drive then got a field goal after a Liberator turnover on the kick-off. Bolivar began to chip away at the lead and got within three early in the third quarter before the Pirates exploded for 21 fourth quarter points. John Ward rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns including two in the fourth quarter with Zac Funderurk rushing for a touchdown and throwing a TD Pass to Logan Mann. The Pirate Defense and Special Teams also stepped up as they combined to force five Bolivar turnovers. Branson will take their 2-0 record on the road next week at Nixa.
Reeds Spring 21 Salem 20
For the second week in a row, the Wolves trailed an opponent in the fourth quarter as the Tigers had erased a first quarter Wolves lead and held the lead until the final minutes of the game. Trailing by five on the final drive, the Wolves moved the ball down the field primarily on the ground. But on a fourth and short around the Salem 20, Noah Cherry tossed a pass to Blake Ball that put the Wolves back up, then the defense held to secure the Wolves second win of the season. Reeds Spring returns home next week to face Marshfield.
Cabool 31 Hollister 14
A tough night for the Tigers as they faced a Bulldog team that had one its first game in 22 starts last week and was playing its home opener. The Bulldogs kept the momentum as they scored the game’s first 24 points and cruised to their second staright win while Hollister falls for the first time this season. Next week, the Tigers will play their home opener against Buffalo.
