BRANSON, Mo.- The Empire District Electric Company files for what it hopes to be an annual 5.5 percent increase on Friday.
The company filed with the Missouri Public Service Commission for a change of rates for Missouri electric customers. If granted its annual revenue could see an increase of over 24 million dollars.
In a report, Empire states its main reason for the increase is for the installation of the Air Quality Control System at the Asbury Power Plant. Also the cost of operating for the company has reportedly gone up.
Friday’s filing was the first step, now the Missouri Public Service Commission will perform an audit of Empire’s operations, hold public hearings, and eventually hold an evidentiary hearing before a decision is made.
