Springfield Standoff Leads to Arrest

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A man crashes a stolen pickup which leads to a four hour standoff between police in Springfield this afternoon.

Police say 29-year-old James Varnum of Springfield faces multiple drug charges as well as a warrant issued in June for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving with a revoked license.

Springfield police officers were called to a vacant home near Douglas Avenue and Nichols Street around 5:30 a.m. After Varnum crashed the truck, he took cover in the residence. The four hour standoff ended with the suspect surrendering himself to the authorities. Additional charges have yet to be filed.
