Mel Lawson is named the City of Branson Employee of the Month for August of 2014.
Mel is a 15-year veteran of the Public Works department, and supervises building maintenance at several city facilities, including City Hall. He was nominated for this award after demonstrating the City of Branson values of Leadership, Volunteerism, and Integrity, especially in a recent incident with another employee:
Mel had learned of a female employee that had lost her wedding rings. She believed they had inadvertently fallen off in the trash before a holiday weekend. Upon hearing of the employee’s dilemma, Mel took it upon himself to check the dumpster.
After seeing the garbage truck had not emptied the dumpster yet from the holiday, he searched the dumpster and was able to locate the trash bag believed to have come from that day and then selflessly went through the entire bag of trash. He was able to rescue the rings wadded up in waste paper for the grateful owner.
Mel showed positive leadership as a supervisor in choosing to do a rather messy job himself rather than send someone else to do a quick check, or to leave the project to the distressed employee whom had lost her rings. Mel responded with a true caring work ethic.
