Marion County joins several other counties across the state by requesting the Arkansas General Assembly provide funds to reduce jail overcrowding.

The Marion County Quorum Court approves a resolution stating jail reimbursement funds are about 17-dollars below the actual cost of holding state prisoners.

The resolution states the incarceration of state prisoners prevents the county jail from holding local prisoners, and reduces income from fines, court costs and restitution.

The resolution asks Governor Mike Beebe to call a special session to provide adequate funding for relief of the overcrowding problem.
